Edge Farm - A Place of Outstanding Beauty HG3 5SP

Edge Farm lunchtime on the Monday and on our way back to what turned out to be a rather traumatic Monday afternoon/evening as the mobile phones started to get signals again.

Anyway this is the last (or first) of the Edge Farm weekend images.

Geological Time

One final view of Scar House Reservoir (or if you are approaching the blog from the front page backwards your first view of Scar House!)

Yep...sheep and lambs.

The illusion of lunchtime

The illusion of lunchtime, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

Although there only two sheep in the picture Gillian was actually surrounded by them at this point as she sat waiting for us all to catch up with her.

Spring lamb contemplates a sprig of mint

This also is foreshortened. Just behind the little lamb the land drops away to the reservoir.

Light walking

Light walking, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

The dark scar in the land that starts bottom right is actually the steep sides of the valley dropping down to the start of Scar House reservoir.

More Wool

More Wool, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

Although hidden Scar House reservoir is only just beyond the sheep. The land drops away sharply from that point towards the water.

Never was able to resist sheep in a big landscape

Scar House

On the home stretch of this walk. This one is from the top of Angram dam looking back towards Scar House and on the very horizon is the shooting lodge.

The mystery of Angram

The mystery of Angram, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

Because Angram dam is in between the two reservoirs you appear to get a much better view of the dam wall than at Scar House, so here it is. If you have a look at the photo on Flickr you will see some snow on the distant hills still (top right).

Nidderdale

Nidderdale, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

Almost the last glimpse of the reservoir from this side of the water, along with the obligatory sheep :)

The long wait

The long wait, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

Looks like Gillian is waiting for me (again!). This is up at the top of the path along Scar House Reservoir, just before the Angram Dam. The path actually continues up alongside Angram but we just did the Scar House loop (maybe another day).

A vague hint of sheep...

A vague hint of sheep..., originally uploaded by SteveGa.

The first of a series taken before and after the dry stone wall going through the picture. There are two or three sheep just the other side of the wall that moved through the gap as we walked down the road.

Peeping sheep

Looking away from Scar House up towards Wising Gill Craggs. The weather looked as though it was on the turn here, but remained quite windy, cold and dry.

Sheep at Scar House (again)

Sheep at Scar House (again), originally uploaded by SteveGa.
sheep = tick
water = tick
sky = tick

must be one of my photos!

This is the second of the Yorkshire photos to appear on Flickr explore and is the "highest" entry photo I have ever has at #83 (out of 500).  No idea why but...

The other Explored Yorkshire image is here.

Two recurring themes in my photos: sheep, and when possible water.

Well what else would an android dream of?

Scar House Reservoir looking across to the quarry

Down to the stones where old ghosts play

More from the Monday walk. Slightly further away from Scar House dam and with the obligatory sheep in the foreground. There were a lot of sheep around this part of the reservoir.

Elemental

Elemental, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

And then it was Monday, the end of the stay. We dropped off at the car park at Scar House and walked round Scar House Reservoir and across the dam wall of Angram Reservoir. The weather was especially moody and windy which made for stunning scenery. Angram certainly looks worth the walk, although you have to park again at Scar House and walk (effectively) both reservoirs.

Sunday 25th April 2010 Walk to Lofthouse

Oddly this was a much harder walk than Saturday especially down from the Shooting Lodge 2.8k to about 4.5k, and then back up from Lofthouse. Even so everything was made much better by home made chips and assorted sandwiches, decent real ale and the most amazing furnace-like fire in the pub.

Sunday 25th April Walk to Lofthouse

I think it is fair to say that the weather on Sunday was pretty poor in the morning. Even so we braved the elements for a walk to the pub (The Crown) but left the cameras behind. A shame really because the weather was spectacular, indeed it was exceptionally wet around the shooting lodge second time around.

Edge Farm round Middlesmoor, Saturday 24th April 2010

The actual route I walked on the Saturday, sdaly not enough resolution to see here but it also includes a trip to the loo in the pub at Middlesmoor - ahh Black Sheep!

Route Card Saturday 24th April

Route Card Saturday 24th April, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

The route card for the round MIddlesmoor walk. Take the timings with a pinch of slat (although the start and end time look ok), I walk so slowly the GPS thinks I am standing still for most of the time.

Summerstone

Summerstone, originally uploaded by SteveGa.
Finally they cried as Edge Farm once again came into view (top left hand side). Of ourse at that point we did not know that the path goes out of picture to the right and then tracks round where you can see the wall!  And really that was that.  The weather began to cloud up as we rounded the bend and before too long we were back where a 5 course meal with wine was waiting for us (well almost aside from a little cooking!).

Three

Three, originally uploaded by SteveGa.

Walking back up the River Nidd, well dried up stream Nidd, we were follwed for quite some way by six lambs. Theree of them made it over the hill for their portrait.
