I am a UK photographer who has been taking landscapes and seascapes for too many years to remember. Most of the images you will find here are of UK landscapes, in the main from Leicestershire (pretty much in the middle of England) and the English Lake District. You can now arrange to print some of my photos at Fine Art America(US and UK printing) and Image4Me (UK canvas prints).

Sg Leslie Garratt
My Grandfather's grave. Taken on the first time either my father or I had seen the grave, almost 40 years (and an awful lot of searching) since he died. An emotional day!
Taken at the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery nr Cleeve and wonderfully looked after by both the CWGC and local people, for which many thanks.
Lough Inagh
We were just driving past as the sun began to break through. probably needs to be seen large (click on image).
Reflections on a bridge
Back to Venice. Scanned negative, Nikon F90x.
Catching the blue mouse
Oscar and the blue mouse. Scanned negative.
Mr Cliff
Mr Cliff sunning himself. probably taken around 1993 in Long Clawson, scanned negative.
venice01-28-s
More of Venice. Scanned negative, photo taken with a Nikon F90x
Calcio
A sort of partner to Little Boy Blue. Again in Venice after the rain.
Pots - Capileira
Looking down the valley this time. This feels timeless to me.
Capiliera & Bubion
Taken from the main road looking back (up) towards Capiliera, Spain.
Seville Cathedral "La Giralda"
Although I hate the images the TZ3 usually provides it is substantially lighter than my Nikon, so it tends to go traveling with me. This one is of Seville Cathedral.

Little Boy Blue (Venice)
One of my favourite Venice photos, it had just stopped raining. Scanned from a 35mm negative.
Who watches the Watchers? Museo de Arte Contemporáneo
It was very dark in this corridor, but the image needed taking.
Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Seville
Taken in Seville, I love the slab of red and the muted reflection on the floor. No one else likes this, but I do.
Antony Gormley - Event Horizon
Mobile phone photo from the Hayward Gallery. We were outside on their terrace looking at Antony Gormley figures on the buildings in London. It was hammering down with rain, hence the umbrella.
Light Box 2
Taken by Gillian at Burleigh Sculpture Park. One of my favourite photos of me, I love the negative space around the main subject.

Edge Farm - A Place of Outstanding Beauty HG3 5SP
Edge Farm lunchtime on the Monday and on our way back to what turned out to be a rather traumatic Monday afternoon/evening as the mobile phones started to get signals again.
Anyway this is the last (or first) of the Edge Farm weekend images.
Geological Time
One final view of Scar House Reservoir (or if you are approaching the blog from the front page backwards your first view of Scar House!)
Is there anyone out there?
John, Gillian and Jane. It was getting slightly chilly in the wind.
Where bright water has gathered
A view back up Scar House towards the dam wall
The illusion of lunchtime
Although there only two sheep in the picture Gillian was actually surrounded by them at this point as she sat waiting for us all to catch up with her.
Spring lamb contemplates a sprig of mint
This also is foreshortened. Just behind the little lamb the land drops away to the reservoir.
Light walking
The dark scar in the land that starts bottom right is actually the steep sides of the valley dropping down to the start of Scar House reservoir.
More Wool
Although hidden Scar House reservoir is only just beyond the sheep. The land drops away sharply from that point towards the water.
Scar House
On the home stretch of this walk. This one is from the top of Angram dam looking back towards Scar House and on the very horizon is the shooting lodge.

The mystery of Angram
Because Angram dam is in between the two reservoirs you appear to get a much better view of the dam wall than at Scar House, so here it is. If you have a look at the photo on Flickr you will see some snow on the distant hills still (top right).

Nidderdale
Almost the last glimpse of the reservoir from this side of the water, along with the obligatory sheep :)
The long wait
Looks like Gillian is waiting for me (again!). This is up at the top of the path along Scar House Reservoir, just before the Angram Dam. The path actually continues up alongside Angram but we just did the Scar House loop (maybe another day).

What Shall We Do Now?
Almost there now!! That is Angram Dam, there are still a few sheep pics to go though :)

A vague hint of sheep...
The first of a series taken before and after the dry stone wall going through the picture. There are two or three sheep just the other side of the wall that moved through the gap as we walked down the road.
Peeping sheep
Looking away from Scar House up towards Wising Gill Craggs. The weather looked as though it was on the turn here, but remained quite windy, cold and dry.

Sheep at Scar House (again)
The other Explored Yorkshire image is here.
Scar House Reservoir
Back down the reservoir towards the dam wall. Almost at Angram by this point (just before the reservoir narrows).
It's a sheep thing...
Pulling back a little to get more of the sky and stuff in play.

Peace in the Valley
Two recurring themes in my photos: sheep, and when possible water.
Scar House Reservoir, Yorkshire.
Don't Let It Get You Down
Yet again, Scar House Reservoir, looking across the water to Dead Man's Hill.

An Android Dreams
Well what else would an android dream of?
Scar House Reservoir looking across to the quarry
Down to the stones where old ghosts play
More from the Monday walk. Slightly further away from Scar House dam and with the obligatory sheep in the foreground. There were a lot of sheep around this part of the reservoir.

Elemental
And then it was Monday, the end of the stay. We dropped off at the car park at Scar House and walked round Scar House Reservoir and across the dam wall of Angram Reservoir. The weather was especially moody and windy which made for stunning scenery. Angram certainly looks worth the walk, although you have to park again at Scar House and walk (effectively) both reservoirs.
Sunday 25th April 2010 Walk to Lofthouse
Oddly this was a much harder walk than Saturday especially down from the Shooting Lodge 2.8k to about 4.5k, and then back up from Lofthouse. Even so everything was made much better by home made chips and assorted sandwiches, decent real ale and the most amazing furnace-like fire in the pub.
Sunday 25th April Walk to Lofthouse
I think it is fair to say that the weather on Sunday was pretty poor in the morning. Even so we braved the elements for a walk to the pub (The Crown) but left the cameras behind. A shame really because the weather was spectacular, indeed it was exceptionally wet around the shooting lodge second time around.

water = tick
sky = tick
must be one of my photos!
